So, what's wrong with SV?

So.... I'm not making this thread to make a point or to make some kind of statement of sorts, but it was just interesting.

SV was the first message board I ever visited/joined/whatever, and it was pretty cool. Sorta. I mean, it had activity-

Oh there's a problem, SV has an utter lack of activity now.

So then I went to other message boards, some not to my liking, others just plain boring, others got my interest. Why? Funny users (I mean genuinely funny), a mature environment, and people you can have a level headed discussion with-

Oh right, there's another thing SV doesn't have. Most people don't bother with discussions here because it disintegrates into meme related faff or something. Oh and I don't really expect SV to have a mature environment. It's not supposed to. Shame there's no hot babes thread though. owell

So the two other main boards I go to, one is huge. By huge I mean there are at least a thousand people on it at any one time. This is because it's a huge community gathering point for many many different things, not just one sole interest. With that said, it would be considering it's linked to an store in the UK. And why wouldn't you become a member if you get free shipping after 250 posts? :B

But yeah, it's hard to get bored there, considering it covers literally everything, and there are plenty of idiots to laugh at (Re: "Saw a girl working at the supermarket, what do I do").

And of course the other board is related to a unique interest of mine, and what really helps is the people there are awesome. I mean, there's a group of awesome people here (They know who there are. Not you DA), but that entire board is just cool people.

Sure there's one or two assholes but nobody can really be bothered to hold a grudge.


So what's SV missing now that it wasn't before?

New people are usually young. And retarded.

We need more idiots. The only time we have large numbers of people on is when someone is making an ass of themselves and engaging in a flame war with an older member.

I've been good friends with quite a few people on here for years, but I usually discuss things with them off the boards. Because, and I reiterate, we're boring.

Yeah we are pretty boring. I mean we've got a whole army devoted to boring. I mean when was the last time our community actually did anything? We're basically a hub for a small collection of sort of like minded people who wish to procrastinate over a non-specific activity of their choosing.

I think its since Matt put the Registration Approval thing on, Mods have been a bit lazy about approving new members thus the lack of activity.

Also, yeah. We tend to do more stuff outside the boards. Scyph, Zae and I usually hang out on Steam, and I'm now hanging around the Halolz crowd on Skype.

The only problem that around 2 or 4 pm this time zone (read now) IT'S A NONSTOP CHAT ABOUT CHILDREN'S CARD GAMES.

Thank god the newbies are still coming to the chat, or else we would still be talking about children's card games.

It's not going to stop me from being a continuing member, but SVMB really doesn't do a lot that far more active places don't.

Also, I think that a lot of newcomers look, see that it's a small and tight-knit community and then decide to go elsewhere rather than spend a long time trying to become an accepted/established/tolerated member.

I've sort of been trying to drum up interest in this place

There were those hoaxes I made, and I made this post on Facepunch a few days back, which sadly didn't seem to do much.

Where are the mods anyway? The only mod (excluding Matt, although sepaking of which where the crap is he) I've actually seen post in the last few months has been D, which isn't exactly helping the point Eco mentioned.

Another problem is that we loudly trumpeted the site's hiatus but pretty much the only place that knew about the return was this very forum.

I say we need to appoint new mods who actually show up once in a while (my nominations would be Zae, Dooms and FE), remove the stupid new-member-approval whatsit, maybe re-announce to Sonic Stadium that the site is actually back and convince Matt to help advertise (to the outside world) the web domain he's still paying for.

I think Sonic Vegemite can still return to the busting web community it once was, with new hoaxers frequently signing up to post their work, rather than a bunch of jaded old members sitting around arguing and remembering how it used to be.
