And trying to make a 3/5 game? That wouldn't be much better than the current BB games... You have NO idea. He's a suggestion. Play Rayman. Not the new ones, the old one. Preferably the PS1 version. Your BloopBloop character is quite similar to Rayman in design (detached hands and feet), and Rayman was able to be a graphically impressive platformer game that managed to be creative as well as familiar. Some ideas you could adapt include: 1 - Larger, more detailed graphics. Not every 2D platformer has to have characters only 5 pixels high. 2 - Flood levels. You rarely see these any more. A level that forces you to move upwards to avoid a disaster, such as rising lava or water. 3 - Simple but overlooked gimmicks such as being able to cling onto a ledge (as a replacement of the double jump), or slippery surfaces. In short, when getting reference material, don't just concentrate on Sonic and all the new games. Take a step back and look at some of the retro ones too, and find out why they were so popular back then.

Ah Rayman... I forgot about that series (Well, technically game, because the only one ever owned was Rayman for the GBC) I used to play that game for hours and not get bored of it... Good times... Good times.
Ironically, however, most the things you listed are already ideas we had already. The flood levels, are not necessarilly (Man my spelling is sucking lately) a hazard, rather than simply being an addition. (EX: in an undersea cave level, for example, water would constantly rise, but BB could swim in it, and it wouldn't harm him a bit.) But putting flood levels in as disasters, yes, that's something that we definetly (... I really need to go back to english class) will put in. I forgot how fun those were.
So... yeah... I'm looking at the retros as well too.

I loved the original Rayman! It was a bit weird, but very original.

Band Land FTW. I loved the cake world in Rayman, with the evil chocolate rayman copying your every move.

Well, not sure if this counts as an update or not, but...
Well, me and SoustekD had a quick chat last night, and he thinks we should completely abandon Game Maker, and move on to C++ and such. Possibly even starting to make Wiiware and XBL games. At first I was outraged by the idea, but I thought about more and more, when I finally realized that he's right. While Game Maker is an excellent tool (When used properly, which I have not been able to do, nor has SoustekD or Code) it isn't what a real game maker would use. So I plan on calling him later today and we'll decide on whether we're abandoning Game Maker completely or not.
Now, if we do move on to more complex engines that do run on consoles, BloopBloop won't be our first game. No purpose in trying to make a good game if you have little programming experience... Well unless you're simply designing the game, not programming it, but three teens making a great game? Not likely...

I HAVE A NAME SUGGESTION!
Well, not so much a suggestion but more advice. Don't do a double name thing, like "BloopBloop". Can you imagine having to say it out loud if you're talking about it? If you're gonna use the name, at least shorten it to just "Bloop".

Look at multiple fangame websites or if you're talking Original, just look at CC's "Forest Dweller", he's making that on his own, and it looks like it could be potentially fun.

Hows about buying Braid for XBox Live Arcade? I've heard it's really good.

Anyway, PK's probably more skilled at making games than me. After all, I do still work with drag n' drop in Game Maker. I'm beginning o learn GML, but I'm finding it difficult.

Is that a wise choice? @cc: You're right, I am getting a bit ahead of myself, aren't I. Computer games first, console games later. And honestly, I'm flattered you'd say I'm better at Game Maker than you, but honestly, look at my work, and then rethink what you've said.
