I SEE WE DON'T HAVE A MINECRAFT THREAD
ALLOW ME TO CORRECT THIS
(if we do, and I've missed it, too bad. Minecraft time.)
GO TO www.minecraft.net and BUY THIS (or pirate it if, like me, you can't buy stuff online, but do organise with someone to buy it for you eventually, since the client updates every Friday and you're missing out on some good stuff without those updates. Also it's only $13 USD, once you buy it you have the full game for life, and once it gets out of Alpha the game price will double)
There are two modes:
CREATIVE is the one you play in the free browser. There're no limits on what you can place where or the number of blocks you have. There is a multiplayer creative mode as well. You can also play Creative in premium browser, but it only adds the ability to change your character skin for multiplayer.
SURVIVAL [ALPHA] is the one you play in the premium game (either in browser or on executable). You can play a free web version of Survival but it's a VERY early version and on a hidden link. Currently we're on ALPHA 1.10. (there is a multiplayer Survival, but it's in VERY early stages.)
CRAFTING
MINING
FARMING
EXPLORING RANDOMLY GENERATED LANDSCAPES
BUILDING BASES
DYNAMIC DAY-NIGHT CYCLE
RUNNING AWAY FROM ZOMBIES OH GOD
WATCH OUT FOR THAT CREEPER AHH HOLY CRAP SSSSSSSS BOOM
FIGHTING MONSTERS
KILLING DEFENSELESS ANIMALS
MAKING MINECART TRAINS CHOO CHOO
*ahem* sorry about that...
In Survival, you must make all your tools yourself with materials you collect. At night and in dark places, monsters spawn. You can also make whatever you want, but unlike in Creative, unless you use external programs to hack your inventory, you're limited to whatever materials you find...but they ARE plentiful, you just need to look in the right places. Except for diamond, which is rare as hens' teeth.
Also, the landscape is generated as you explore, since the entire map is something like 8 times the surface of the earth and there's no way that any computer could take the entire thing.
YOU'RE GOING TO NEED THIS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING
ANY QUESTIONS CAN BE ADDRESSED TO ME OR THE FINE FOLKS AT www.minecraftforum.net
NOW PLAY THIS YOU POPPETS
HERE'RE SOME VIDEOS TO SEE WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO
