Wasn't flaming I was concerned about, dude. Not even I am out of the loop enough to think you guys are really flinging those insults at one another.
More the derailing. I don't want to move a topic to the Fluff Forum - again - while people are still trying to talk seriously about it in between "your mum" jokes.
Hur hur I said in between your mum hur hur
Now. Back on topic. Malware.

A long time ago, after we finally bought a router, my brother and I were searching for some way to stretch one copy of Diablo II across multiple computers. We ended up getting our main computer virus'd instead, prompting the purchase of a large external hard drive for the purpose of backing up all our stuff, and then wiping and reinstalling the main computer.
Later, after I had obtained my laptop, one day I somehow got a virus that not only slowed it down, it also prevented the logon process from completing. Luckily my brother had a Linux boot disc that let me access my files and transfer them to the external hard drive, after which he wiped my laptop and reinstalled everything.
Finally, my laptop somehow got infected again, but my brother had recently found a program called Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and it worked. Haven't had any virus problems since.

A trojan downloader hit me with the Internet Security Bar (adware, tries to get you to download more viruses) before pulling some vundo down on me. For those who don't know, vundo is a trojan (leaving a big hole in your security) that keeps itself installed by constantly recreating deleted files under a random filename and keeping the programs running at all times. The way it does this, of course, overloads your PC's shell, slowing it to a crawl. Ended up having to reformat when a safe-mode rename didn't work. I had a vundo issue a while back ( Thanks, Opera. Secure browser, my brown eye. For a little background, I'd clicked on a very innocent thumbnail from what looked like a reputable source, no downloads or anything). This was quite a while ago, though. I managed to get rid of it with malware bytes anti-malware, but apparently newer variants are a bit more asshole than that. Vundo got me near the middle of last year, or the year before. Was pretty annoying. I got MBAM,a bunch of other tools, and in the end combofix'd it.

Man, we're just giving each other a hard time.. I BET YOU WERE! But yeah, I consider the best course of action against malware and the such is to prevent it happening in the first place, hence why I have lovely addons for firefox such as NoScript and Ad Blocker. Unfortunately the latest update of Firefox still hasn't fixed the random crashing, so i'm forced to use Chrome instead. Also Cheesy, what was that program you used that's good at clearing spyware and such stuff? Advanced Computer Care or something? I think bringing it up would be quite relevant.

That little bugger, complete with its links to other good utilities, is called Advanced System Care. It's not very good at removing the really resilient viruses, but it's good at keeping your PC clean and functional.

Yeah, I remember getting Vundo a while ago. Went to a tech support forum and they helped me out with it after a few days. In the meantime, I managed to watch pretty much all of the Sonic 2006 LP on my laptop, which was the first LP I had watched since Deceased Crab. (so yeah, the first good LP I watched)
Also, I use avast!, Ad-Aware, and sometimes MBAM if I feel like it.

I got hit by that internet security thing twice. My initial distrust (when the hell did I get an antivirus program?) followed onto suspicion (why is it disallowed me from opening task manager) to realisation (why the HELL is it trying to stup rundll.exe?)
And then I managed to get task manager up and kill the thing. I got AVG after that. I had to take it down temporarily...
It came back two weeks later. AVG went back up and stayed back up.

Al I can say is that I feel insulted that it'd think I'd fall for it being disguised as security software.

I have Advanced System Care, MBAM and Spyware Doctor. also, I'm pretty sure SJ is clean, RB. What Doomsday said, except I haven't tried MBAM yet. I think SmackJeeves is trying to sort that malicious banner issue out. I can't say for sure, but whenever that ad comes up at the front page, my browser crashes, asking me to restart the browser. In fact, I had many run-ins with trojans, adware and viruses throughout the years of having a computer.

A while back I had a browser hijacker. It sucked and McAffee didn't do anything about it but bug me about how I was insecure.
Then I downloaded Windows Security Essentials and it actually deleted whatever the hell file was causing it.
Also: The guys who made Advanced System Care also have some neat RAM cleaning programs. They are the most useful things ever if you have Vista.
