...Don't even joke like that. Yes, because reading books and watching movies were only popular for about 25 years, right?

Yes, because reading books and watching movies were only popular for about 25 years, right? It should probably be noted that before videogames THERE WEREN'T VIDEOGAMES. Doing one thing and then adapting to something new is FAR different that being stripped of something and then having to adapt to the next best thing.

Actualy, video games almost died in 1983 because of bad marketing by Atari. Then Nintendo saved the day in 1985 with the NES which they packaged with R.O.B so it looked like a toy rather than a Video game system. I think that's why it was called Famicom (Family computer) in Japan too
Edit: Me can't spell

I think that's kind of an exageration. Though Atari is seen as almost killing video games, there was no effect on arcade games in 1983, just home consoles. Which by the way, there was a console explosion in 1983, every idiot with basic programming skills making their own startup. Factor in the rise of PC gaming, and conglomerate companies trying to squeeze into the game industry, and you have a recipe for disaster, with Atari's ET was the final ingredient. Now, things have pretty much evened out. There's only four companies making consoles, and video games are mainly being produced by companies that specialize in games. Unless there's a new form of entertainment that surpasses video games in the future, then I don't see a repeat of 1983 happening anytime soon.

SecuROM is probably contributing.

SecuROM is probably contributing. Only if companies are stupid and use every single annoying aspect of it like EA. For example, Tomb Raider Underworld uses SecuROM technology, but only the less annoying aspects of it. Personally I think personalized downloading programs will help contribute towards the death of videogames. Steam doesn't count as it's actually decent, but EA's personal downloader is KIPPERS, and now the PSP requires you to use a personallized downloader to download a simple wallpaper or demo onto your PSP (which we could do perfectly fine in the past without one), AND IT DOESN'T WORK ON 64BIT COMPUTERS (I had to get a hacked version to get mine to work).

I read it. But then again, crowdsourcing hasn't really been accounted for. Look at the success of the iPhone game apps, the Wii Shop channel, and the independent games that can be downloaded on the 360. They may not have "realistic cloth and fluid movement," but the fact is, they make money, and since independent game makers aren't completely obsessed with appealing to the top 20% of gamers, people will be more likely to find a game that feels less like a one size fits all game that is supposed to appeal to them based on focus groups and market research.

Somewhat of a check, check, and check. The Wii and XBox 360 Arcade ARE cheap, but not THAT cheep. Some games are being more innovated, and the Wii and DS are doing a fairly good job, but I dunno...
Also, the article is a little dated. I dont think the X360 or the PS3 are doing THAT bad anymore (Someone may correct me plz?), and if the Wii can actually come out with more "Hardcore" games, it will be good.

Well GETTING BACK ON TOPIC... (I forgot just how often this used to happen here <<)... So it's gonna take you more than five years to make Bluwave? Not necessarally(sp?) so much that it'll take five years to make, although considering how much we plan to cram into one disc, who knows? We want to wait until our programming skills and experience in the industry are alot higher. We have very high expectations of ourselves. Our hopes are that we actually debunk Zelda Ocarina of Time as the highest critically acclaimed video game of all time. It's a difficult, and possibly impossible goal to achieve. But that the goal we've made. We intend to accomplish it, be it with Bluwave 1, Bluwave 2, or, if we go that far, Bluwave 7. Truthfully, 2015 is a rather unrealistic realease date goal. It's far too early for many of the things we're planning for the game. More experience will give us the ability to do more and make better decisions. The main area of the game I'm currently focusing on are the controls of the game. I never thought that the controls would be so challenging to decide upon. But I'm currently leaning towards a weaponry system that works similar to NiGHTS' tranformations in NiGHTS for the wii (which is EPIC. why didn't I get this game earlier?). Another issue I'm slightly worried about is the layout of the game itself. I want the game to be like a traditional platformer (get to the goal, make it within a time limit, etc.), But at the same time, the level designs are in a freeroaming world style that is similar to Zelda games. In otherwords, the game is one big paradox so far. I'd like to add a ranking system to whenever you complete a level, or mission, or whatever. But in the way the levels are designed, it isn't that easy to come up with the solution. Unfortunetly, time has once again prevented me from saying all that I need to. So, I guess I just have to wait until I can next post.
