I think it was God Scientifically, they used the Big bang theory because thats the only way its possible so there isnt another explaination And if the big bang theory is right, then infinite universes are existant. To have infinite universes, they must have been created for an infinite amount of time at an infinite speed. That would mean that our universe was created an infinite number of years ago and if that is true, then humans would have killed each other off by now. But thats not true. Bottom line: There is a 1 in something trillion chance that the big bang theory is true Scientists dont even have a clue what caused the big bang

The Big Bang is the most likely theory that has been thought up, not the only one. And, being atheist, I definitely don't believe that it was any sort of deity. The Big Bang is a likely theory, but I personally don't believe in it. The universe is nothingness with things in it, and how can nothingness be created? I think that the universe has always been there, but some incident, like the Big Bang or something similar, has put things in it.

tenebrais, two problems with your idea. Scientists thought up the big bang theory because that was either the only possiblity or the most likely scientific possiblity. If the universe was infinitely here, then Whatever event you speak of happened a infinitly long time ago we (humans) would have wiped ourselves by now. The only way something cannot be infinite is if it never changes

Yes, the universe was infinitely here. But why should that mean humanity would have wiped itself out? I'm saying the universe has always been here, but not the things in it. The universe wasn't started by the Big Bang or whatever actually started it all, but everything else was. So humanity hasn't always been there and therefore killed itself simply because the universe has.

I beleive the universe has always been there, but, the big bang created the stars and planets also the galaxies. But if there was a mixture I have no clue how anything would be here.
(ok if I didnt make any sense just disregard this)

what you said make no sense. what you said is equivelent to the big bang theory in that something comes from nothing. Like i said nothing can be infinite unless it never changes or it is timeless. the universe is neither of these things. The problem is that if a change occurs in somthing that is not timeless, the change would have happened an infinitely long time ago and simeltaiously an infinitely long time later. any ideas Understand why the universe could not have always been here?

Big bang theory, obviously. I say this not only owing to atheism, but to the fact that God couldn't have created such an infinite thing. And of course, there ARE infinite other universes. If anyone were to survive a black hole, they'd find themselves in an alternate universe. So there.
PS: Fizzy. The Big Bang did not create the planets and stars. The theory states that they already existed, but were packed into a single point on the universe's infinite plane. So something was not created from nothing. Something expanded out from something, to fill nothing. Get it?

well I could've sworn that the big bang applied to our small solar system in particular. we only recently discovered the presence of other galaxies and systems for that matter. if the big bang created our solar system, then other bangs had to have made other systems and stars. stars are born and die every day. its called gas compression. if you pick up your local astro science text book, theres a neat little section on it. okay, so i looked it up, and found myself corrected. still. our solar system was created during the birth of our sun. for our system in particular, see www.novan.com/solar.htm i also managed to dig up some good pages on the theory, one at the moment. liftoff.msfc.nasa.gov/academy/universe/b_bang.htmland for the life of a star, heres a basic and easy to read map. www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/astronomy/stars/lifecycle/

Big Bang? I've herd of that theroy actualy... But who knows what created our universe? For all we all know,a bunch of stars probly formed together and became our universe!lol. But the Big Bang theroy is posibly the most accurate.

Don't ever say 'lol' in front of me. Ever.
In fact, Star's right. No-one knows who created the universe, and it's doubtful that anyone ever will. Perhaps we should debate on how the universe will end (or if it will end), since someone will probably find out the end, be they human or some other life form.

Sorry,I didn't mean to offend. But, I doubt the universe will end,*claps once* just like that... But I've heard about a theroy that the universe is pulling apart from itself...Like rasins in rasin bread... Although, again who knows? Maybie all the stars in the universe will explode all at once, causing the planets to wander aimlessly... But as Tenebrais said... Nobody knows.

The universe will probably end when humanity decides, as a last ditch effort to stop the alien horde hellbent on killing us all, builds a missle known as the cascade missle. They will attack the missle onto a shuttle on a suicide mission into the alien homesystems sun, causing it to super nova. unbeknowst to the poor humans, the cascade missles not called the cascade missle for kicks. for the first sun releases such a massive supernova all the neighboring stars super nova, causing a chain reaction of novas which will eventualy destroy the universe in its entirety. then again this could only apply to a universe so small that its called the punyverse, as seen in the gofotron storyline in sluggy freelance.

ARG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i told you the universe could not always have been here. that means the universe is infinite and nothing can be infinite unless it is timeles or unchangeing. Suppose the universe was infinite time-wise. What is infinity diveded by 4? What infinity is infinity divided by 12? what is infinity divided by 9999999999999999 999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999? infinity What is infinity divided by infinity? infinity if you disagree, what do you think it is? 1? no that would mean that every single peice of time is one. from last year to now and from 1960 to 3543. is this true? no so how long has it been since the big bang that put everything in place? infinity. how long has it been since now and yesterday? infinity. see why it makes no sense to say that the universe has been here forever? i rest my case
