i mean the fanbase has the same problem the homestuck fanbase does
they like a thing, and that's cool
i also like that thing, but i don't create this bizarre insular community so overrun with injokes and porn that it genuinely scares the creator
the game itself is great, genuinely one of the best in years and easily one of the best soundtracks, but the fanbase weirds me the hell out

I don't hate the game at all, I think its kinda cute actually. However, it isn't extraordinary and mindblowing like the fanbase tries to play it out as.
It doesn't really bring anything new or innovative to the RPG genre either. Choice based story paths and non-traditional combat system isn't exclusive to this game. The dude even said he got alot of inspiration from SMT games as well as other RPGs.
As for the story, I feel as though it tries VERY hard to try to make you sad. I felt it was hard to feel attached to everyone except for maybe Sans, Papyrus and to an extent Alphys because you don't spend enough time with any of the other main characters to establish an emotional connection. Example: Toriel. You know her for the first 5-10 minutes of the game before you try to escape the ruins. It tries to make you feel sad through the music and battle ambiance to try and make you stay with her because she doesn't want you to leave. While sad, its not heartwrenching like some people make it out to be because like I said, you barely know her. Afterwards, you never hear from her again until the end of the True Pacifist Route.
Its like if Persona maximized your social link with someone after 2 conversations with them.
Its also hard to take the game SUPER seriously. If I had to make a ratio, I'd say the game was 75% Comedy, 25% Serious.
Comedy sections: Napstablook, Lesser/Greater Dog, Dogamy and Dogaressa, Papyrus traps, Papyrus date, Temmies, So Sorry (Easter Egg), Bratty and Catty, Burgerpants, Undyne Date, Alphys Date, the knights who are gay for each other, Alphys Social Media Updates, Mettaton all the way until the end of the Mettaton EX fight.
There is much more I could name off but I can't remember them all.
Serious Section: Ruins w/ Toriel, any scene with Flowey, your one on one convos with Sans, Snowman, Undyne chasing and trying to kill you, Sans fight if you went Genocide Route, True Lab, Asgore scenes and True Pacifist Ending.
Its like an action anime that had a KIPPERS ton of unneeded filler episodes. There were quite a bit of unexplained plot holes in the game too that I can mention if wanted, but I feel like the creator purposely did that to leave it to fan speculation (aka every tumblrette can be confirm their headcanon whether we like it or not).
Graphics are lazy. "b-but you don't need graphics to make a game good". While that is true, you could make a bit of effort to make it look appealing. Why is the MC's walking animation the same going up and down? Why does she have a giant tumor on her cheek? Being simplistic for the sake of being simplistic is just being lazy.
The biggest saving grace of the game was its soundtrack. I could go on for hours how its music score was amazing and fit its bosses/environment but thats not what I'm doing. If anything the weakest music track in the whole game was the normal battle music but it wasn't bad at all.
I give the game a 7/10.
TL;DR: It's a good game, but not amazing. Didn't bring anything new to the table. Lack of good character development. Hard to take seriously because the comedy outshines everything else. Lazy graphics. Amazing Soundtrack.

@ Eco: That's fine, but come on, man, the level of emotional attachment thing is completely subjective because I genuinely cried three times at the ending and I don't cry at fiction that easily.
(My opinion on Undertale is that Undertale is super great and Alphys is frighteningly relatable, so I'm a bit biased here.)
EDIT: haha you used the word "tumblrette". Is that a synonym for tumblrina or

I found it deeply moving. I couldn't bring myself to do anything harmful to anyone.
All the "monsters" are so nice. Maybe ten years ago I would have killed everyone, but today?
I just....can't. I like that, as a game, it made me appreciate that.

I initially only experienced the True Pacifist run via a YouTuber's playthrough when the game was new, but I eventually got the game myself specifically for the purpose of doing two no-mercy bosses (but I did a true pacifist run or two as well) and enjoyed pretty much all of it. The style of humor in this game hits the spot for me super well, and the aforementioned bosses in the aforementioned no-mercy mode were more fun to me than they were probably supposed to be. The stuff that was meant to get the feels train going did reasonably well at doing so, though I wish I would have played the game before watching it - it'd likely have hit even harder that way.
I will say that most of it is not very good looking (at least until later on), and the player character is not great to look at, but that's about the extent of my dislikes. At least that I can think of off the top of my head, anyway.
