Are any of you remaining trickle of people as excited as the anal retentives at Sonic Retro are about this?
I'm... not really.

Well, it's a pretty good port, from what I've heard!

To be honest, I've been skeptical of Sonic games since Unleashed. If it's good, fine. But I've already got it on GameCube, so

To be fair, I'm told it does have Tails in it now. And a bonus level based on Dust Hill.

Could someone explain what this topic is about? A new Sonic CD?

To be fair, I'm told it does have Tails in it now. And a bonus level based on Dust Hill. Dust Hill? Sounds like the elusive "R2" level if you ask me (Explains the cactus on the Little Planet loading screen). But yeah, Tails is a confirmed playable character. And since from the trailer, it looks to be his Sonic 2 sprites, which in my opinion means it'l probably be unlikely you'll be able to fly (prove me wrong SEGA/SONIC Team). Unless they've changed his stats (higher jumping, slower top speed etc), it just looks to be a sprite swap. But on the other hand HOLY CRAP YOU CAN PLAY AS SOMEONE OTHER THAN SONIC FOR THE FIRST TIME IN GOD KNOWS

Remember Retro Sonic, the fangame created by The Taxman? This Sonic CD remake is based on its engine, with Taxman in charge of making it.
The remake has widescreen and both the US and JP soundtracks. The latter now has proper looping with unused tracks from the original game. There is also an option for Sonic 2-style physics, with the S2 spindash. Tails is fully playable, complete with flying ability. You have to beat the game once to play as him.
Unfortunately, the Dust Hill-based bonus level isn't included in the game. Taxman was going to add it (along with a new final boss level, Final Fight) but he had bigger priorities.
So yeah, it's released for the PS3, XBLA, iOS and Android and it's only $2 for phones and $5 for consoles. I'd recommend buying it even if you don't like SCD that much just to support The Taxman. Who knows, Sega might make remakes of Sonic 1-3&K if this sells well.
I don't know why I decided to post for the first time in two and a half years just to advertise this remake. I don't even like Sonic CD that much!

Actually I do think that it's insanely cool that someone managed to get a job at a big company on the strength that they created a technically impressive copy of one of their old games. Guy's living the dream, man.

Who are you? Some guy who used to be active here in 2007-2009, but then started visiting the site gradually less and less and eventually forgot about it. I can't say I'm surprised that nobody remembers me.
