I'd say one reason is the one thing we have that other Sonic sites don't, hoaxing, is dead. Sonic beta ROMs have already been dissected to the point that the word "hoax" doesn't make sense, so no one actually believes there's a "OMG SECRET LEVEL LULZ." Also, the rise of sprite comics delivered the death knell. Sprite comics are easier to make and publish, and with better tools like Paint.net and GIMP, the results look more interesting than fake screengrabs. At least, that's my take on it. I should point out that despite their name, hoaxes were never meant to be taken seriously. They were always either for playing "what if", or for just being plain silly. I do take your point about sprite comics being easier to make though, which is a shame, because I still believe that 95% of sprite comics look less interesting than the equivalent amount of blank white monitor space. SV will have to rely less on hoaxes though, or at least, on Sonic hoaxes. also here is a recipe
