So yeah, my computer got infected with spyware by going on some wikia site.
But that, dear sirs, is not the problem. After getting rid of the spyware, I'm getting a shitload of registry errors asking me what program I'd like to run Firefox in, and that Task Manager doesn't exist without going to the Windows folder in my hard drive. Mainly the problem is not being able to run .exe files at all without my computer asking for a program to run it in, which I am not aware even existed until these shenanigans happened.
And my question is, what the hell makes an .exe file open and run itself. I can't even edit the registry to fix everything without finding a program to run it in.

I have no idea. I recently picked up a rootkit, and this helped get rid of that. I use CCleaner to sort out registry stuff (although all that mainly does is sort out missing filetype errors or something but whatever) Check your Startup folder and Task Scheduler for anything that looks suspicious. Googling the name of the service/program pretty much determines whether to keep it or not. In other news, I use avast! and Spybot S&D to sort out my crap.

CCleaner to remove null registry entries.
MBAM to nuke infections.
Edit: Combofix as a last resort, make sure you know when and how to use that before you even download it.
