Nutshell: Kevin Rudd, Australia's current Prime Minister is out of the picture and has been replaced by Australia's first female Prime Minister (although she's claiming it's unofficial) Julia Gillard, who was his second in command. She had been rising in popularity for a while, which must have made office relations rather awkward.

Julia Gillard will be sworn in by Australia's first female Governor General, Her Excellency Quentin Bryce.
