Oh well, cool. Sonic 4 it is.
EDIT: Somehow, the game being downloadable disappoints me. I mean, yeah, it's still a game, but EHHH.
And the half-second piece of gameplay footage looks nice (aside from Sonic's godawful running animation).

EDIT: I don't really think much of the trailer, the new Sonic seems slow.
Also I don't like it being downloadable, I can't really buy anything online since I don't have a crdit card yet (unless EFTPOS works?)

I must say the obvious continuation from the Sonic 3 to the Sonic 4 logo does fill me with some kind of child-like glee, although if they don't bring back the circular-legged running animation I will be disappointed. Although from what they describe, it sounds kind of like a 3D-rendered Sonic Megamix, not that I'm complaining, that game was awesome.
Also, I notice on their site that there's a ??? platform other than XBL, PSN and Wiiware. Wonder what that could be. Yes that is a not-so-subtle attempt at communicating my hope that it is a Dreamcast successor. Shut up. Although if it's on Steam or similar that works, too.
EDIT: Okay apparently I should learn to read sites, ??? is the iPhone. Boo.

So wait, does Sonic 4 mean that they're retconning the plot (as in, ignoring the SADX, SA2, StH2k6, and SU plots), or is this simply bridging the gap between S&K and SADX?
Don't ask me where Sonic CD fits in to all this.

It's a direct successor to Sonic 3 & Knuckles. To be frank, if they ignored all the plot from SA onwards they'd be doing themselves a massive favor.
