It's about as good as it's likely to get with the franchise being what it is nowadays. Some people simply refuse to be satisfied.
Then again, how many times have we heard "COULD THIS NEW GAME BE SONIC'S RETURN TO PROMINENCE?" now?

I don't really know whether to expect the best from Sonic 4 yet. All I truly ask from it though, is to perhaps bring back the classic extra Super Sonic boss, where you have to collect the emeralds first. Seeing how the special stages are apparently brought back, this could be possible.
