www.ddo.comJust started playing it today, got good hopes for it. Unlike most mammorpaguhs these days you actually use the WASD keys to move, mouse to control camera (when holding right mouse button), and space to jump... ...as in, it's an actual game, and not a slightly more action packed version of The Sims. It's one of the main things that piss me off about most mmorpgs, the fact that most of them are simple "click and grind" gameplay. But yeah, this one plays well, has great graphics, is absolutely free to play (though of course there are monetary benefits such as extra classes, races, and character slots), and so far seems to have good quests. Surprisingly enough the first quest they give you isn't "kill 10 slimes and collect their bladders". I'm still in the newbie town right now, just completed my first quest. My character's name is Verance Stahlwort.

Spfah. It's a good game, but the last time I played the leveling was monstrously, monstrously slow. Like, beyond words. Has this changed?

BLARGH this game is good. It SMASHINGLY has puzzles. PUZZLES! By the end of the quest you actually feel like you accomplished something!
I am kinda saddened by the fact that you only see the other players in villages though, but I guess that's necessary for the gameplay.
BTW, i'm still level 1, but i'm also "rank 6". I think DDO treats stuff like that different to other RPGs (rank goes up depending on EXP, level goes up if you visit a trainer and buy a level up with training points).

OK, so the leveling is still nightmarishly slow. Ranks are worthless except to give you little bonuses to insignificant stats. Only levels, which you get after, like, a full 8 hours of continuous questing, provide any progress in your abilities.

Haven't played it yet, but I'm going to assume this is a Free Version of WoW?

Haven't played it yet, but I'm going to assume this is a Free Version of WoW? I've played it. It couldn't grab my attention for long, but it's a good game nonetheless and it's absolutely nothing like WoW.

Haven't played it yet, but I'm going to assume this is a Free Version of WoW? I'm going to have to ask you to go into a corner and die. It is a poorly-paced game, but it's still D&D. The D&D ruleset is absolutely in no way similar to WoW, and in fact, WoW would not exist without D&D. This is because, simply speaking, D&D is a much more refined and much more interesting game than WoW, not to mention being overall more fun. Besides, the game isn't just another free-to-play throwaway. It was originally P2P and was made free when they couldn't get enough subscribers to support the servers.

WoW and D&D not better or worse, they're just... different. They're designed to do different things. Different people find different things interesting, etc etc...

I can't imagine D&D being that much better than WoW without a DM. But then I haven't played DDO either.

But still, calling a D&D game "a free version of WoW" is much like those people who insist that the Unseen University of Discworld, being a place of learning for wizards (date of first publication: 1983), is somehow a ripoff of the Harry Potter universe.

Hence why I said I never played it and I was assuming. >> I dunno, man, I always thought of assumptions as educated guesses and I'm just not seeing the education there. That means you assumed assumptions to be educated guesses, which they are not. I'm only kidding about you assuming so but yeah >>
