I got myself the remake of the first Monkey Island game on Talk like a Pirate day (50% discount), and have started playing it. It's quite good, although i'm surprised at the lack of any actual intro aside from "I'm Guybrush Threepwood, and I wanna be a pirate." (as in, that's pretty much ALL that's said).
One of the things I like are the graphics. The backgrounds and character artwork are nice.
However, I couldn't help but notice a couple of things irked me. First and foremost when the characters talked, it looked like they were having a seizure. I know it's to fit the original style but I don't think it needs to be that drastic (Voodoo Lady's tit shaking makes this worse). Also, does anyone else notice how dodgy the the "spinning on the candlebra" pirate looks in the SCUMM bar? Could help but notice that rather than actually draw the pirate spinning, they instead drew the pirate facing the front and rotated the image on a flat plane, making the whole thing look like spinning cardboard. Also couldn't help but notice that the fire in the SCUMM bar fireplace was cropped off (as in, the light emitting from it ends abruptly).
But the final straw for me was when I started to waltz into the forest to find those yellow flowers.
Just take a look.

Why are there random black squiggles on the ground? And most importantly, why can I still see the original pixellated background behind the plants?
Has anyone else noticed this? I don't know if it only happens in the forest (so far it's happened in both parts of the forest explorable without a map) or if this is a recurring thing. I don't mean to diss the guys behind Monkey Island, but considering all the hype and such that they did about bringing the franchise back, I would have expected not to see amateurish mistakes like that.
Of course i'm still gonna play the game and enjoy it, but i'm just surprised that such a glaring mistake could be let through any sort of quality control.
