Hey, when I logged on to my computer today, it said that a line of the registry was corrupted and was restored through a backup. I know what this means (It means Windows Registry is having problems with its code. Sign of a virus) , but it had some WEIRD side effects. When I logged in, my desktop background had gone from the Milky Way to the default hillside landscape. It started to pop up things I already knew, and it said at the bottom: "Tour of XP: Learn all the new features of Windows XP"
Thankfully, my internet connection and files are still intact, but I'm worried what'll happen next. Anybody think they know what to do?

Get Mac. But seriously, I'd back up everything you want to keep, then wipe and load your hard drive. Then, just renitiate the whole thing. Get some security things, like ZoneAlarm/Pro, Spybot and Adaware for spyware, and some pop up blocker/ spam email killers. But then, not having Windows XP anymore, I can't exactly tell you specifics.

well, i know one thing. 1) GET A MAC! but if you cannot, then do the folowing. 1) get norton anti virus. it will catch any virus on your system, and does regular scans. even scans emails too. 2) get adaware and do a scan for adware everytime you use the internet. this SHOULD solve your problems for the time being until you get a mac. yes im going to drill that message into your brain.

I have both of those and use 'em regularly. I don't care for Macs. I plan on getting a Linux operating system, though. YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT, WINDOWS! YOU ARE OUTTA HERE!

1) get norton anti virus. it will catch any virus on your system, and does regular scans. even scans emails too. It won't necessarily get all viruses. Some viruses are specifically designed to be "immune" to Norton, or disable it, or something like that, just because Norton is the most well known. AVG and avast! are good, free, and not as well known, so they paired with Norton would be a good team. Really. You also might want to try something like RegistryMedic (I've only heard of it, but what I've heard is good) or Ace Utilities which also helps clean out the Registry. And definitely backup anything really important to you.

If you get Linux, get Red hat. It's just better. Mandrake sucks. Very much. Even if it is "more graphical", it's not as dependable. Besides, Red Hat can be just as easy and MORE reliable than Windoze.

Wow, haven't used Linux in a while. When I did, we were using Debian with KDE. (We had X Windows on th uni system at first.. but then they included other GUIs because they realised XWin sucks.)

Eh... Then I guess you've never used Photoshop 5.0. I still have nightmares about XP freezing up on me with that.

Photoshop 5 is the version you'll never EVER hear about. The earliest they go is 5.5 Never 5. It's secret and all files about it were destroyed.
