Tené: But isn't most English derived from latin?
I'm siding more with FE on this one. The English language probably will change for the better or worse in the future, when you consider how simplified the language is today compared to Shakespearean language.
With that dumbing down in mind, here's the worst case scenario; everyone will talk like chavs.

Tené: But isn't most English derived from latin. Much of it, yes, but one still needs to study the language to be able to understand it. And remember that Latin was still in broad use in the intellectual world in the last few hundred years. The general populace tended to speak it around two thousand years ago. But we're looking at fifty thousand years into the future. Civilisation itself isn't that old.

ARRRRRRGH
Seriously though, as someone who is mildly interested in this whole subject of the evolution of language and stuff, it's quite surreal to try and imagine how much things will have changed in fifty thousand years. I mean, it's just like Tené said. All languages were radically different only one thousand years ago, so...

That's what I was thinking too, but hey, we've managed to decipher ancient languages before.
