In case you didn't already know, I'm editor of the school literary magazine. Also, SV helped me out last time I needed it, so I figured I could do so again. Anyways, my lit mag staff has taken submissions, done layout, and all that, but now, I need a cover. Because I have no Photoshop skills at all, I'm just going to make this a contest. The rules are... You have to use this picture. The cover has to be 8.5"X11" with .25" borders The title HAS to be "Other Voices Presents: In the Mind's Eye". In that order EXACTLY. All submissions are due Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 12:00PM EST. But if I see a really good idea, I might abruptly end the contest. If I see an idea I like, I'll use it as the cover. If you want, I can credit you, just PM your name or any other info, like country or state. So, yeah. That's about it. [Edit]: Corrected the date. My bad.

Hmm... Sounds good.
Now if /I/ had any, I'd do it...

I have two designs, sort of: The first one, using the image as it is with a bit of zoom blur, and: The second one, using the picture flipped over, giving it a more psychadellic feel. (I actually have no photoshop skills myself, not owning the program and all, but I think Paint.NET's just as good.)

First of all, can we get a version of the pictures that DOESN'T have: A) Water spills on it. B) Noticeable scratches and artifacts. C) Scanlines
Also, does your staff know about this? What exactly do you do as editor of this magazine? I hate to sound abrupt but from the way you put it your staff seem to do alot of the work for you, so what exactly have you done to contribute to the mag apart from choosing a price?
I just wanna know this before I start rushing into photoshop.

I just wanna know this before I start rushing into photoshop. I actually can't. It was a gift of one of the staff members, and most of the stains and scratches are results of normal wear and tear. I don't have a flatbed scanner. I have to use the ones at school, which are iffy at best. So, with short notice, I had to use my crappy printer/scanner. Second, I actually do work for the literary magazine. When I say staff, I actually include myself too. This isn't just something I'm doing for my resume, or just out of some sadistic need to order people around. I don't just make decision, I bust my ass doing what everybody else is doing. If I couldn't get submissions, layout, sell, etc. at the expectations I place on the rest of the staff, then that shows that I'm a hypocrite and a bad leader.

So basically you do a bit of everything? Ok, that's all I wanted to know.
You should be careful about your choice of words. To me at least when you said "my staff" it really didn't suggest that you did the work aswell. Something as simple as "me and my staff", "me and me co-workers" or heck, even "we" would avoid that kind of confusion.

I highly doubt I'm getting any more submissions, so I'm just going to cut it off now. The winner is...drumroll please... ... ... CC for the psychadelic eye cover. So CC, if you want credit or any specific info in the special thanks page (like, your name, state you're from, whatever you feel comfortable giving out) then PM me.

Thanks. And do you reckon you could send me a scan of the cover when it's done, just for the record?
