The topic says it all. Well it doesn't. It doesn't mention how Tyrian has an excellent arcade mode - where you (get this) have MORE THAN ONE HIT POINT. Or the Full Game mode, where you can build your spaceship almost from scratch, by choosing hull type, front and rear-mounted weapons, shield type, et cetera. Or even the loads of secrets - unlockable minigames, lots of extra ships, new and bizarre weapons, even special moves! Yes, Tyrian has (optional) special moves. (Y'know, like in fighting games - down, down and fire and so on.) Plus, it's freeware! That's right - it's not just abandonware - it's been made freeware by the game's creator, so the full five-episode game is a perfectly legal download! Go here to get it: members.iinet.net.au/~vannevar/tyrian/

I was about to do the obligatory complaints about being an unsupported Linux user, but then I saw it was designed for a GBA emulator. Cool.

K.
Unfortunately, the full completed game was originally for PC, so W your complaints are still valid. The GBA and GBC versions are inferior unfinished ports and you're missing out on the full Tyrian goodness. D, if your complaints are about the GBA/GBC versions, that's the reason. If you're talking the PC version, XP with its wonderful "let's ruin anything ever made for DOS" feature built-in makes it difficult to get sound running properly. Can't say I get crashes after the first level though o.o
Finding some sort of DOS emulator like DOSBox (to which there is a link on the Tyrian site) usually fixes the problem, although the music still runs slow.

Yes, thats part of the problem. i cant figure out how to get dosbox working. unfourtunatly my true experiance with comps came AFTER dos's time, so yes, im screwed. every time i use the mount command it does something that doesnt lead to tyrian. if you could give me a few step by step instructions for commands and where to put tyrian for easy access, it would be a great help.

K. Your DOSBox.conf file ought to have this bit in the "autoexec" section:
[autoexec] mount y h:\* y:** cd matt*** cd tyrian~1
*This sets my hard drive (which is H:\ and not C:\ for bizarre reasons involving the way it was set up in the shop) to get a temporary new name called Y:\. Y:\ will only be my hard drive's name within DosBox: everywhere else, it will still be H:\.
** So I switch to Y:\...
***And change to the folder I put tyrian in. "cd (folder name)" is the equivalent of double-clicking on a folder in Explorer.
So now, when I run DOSBox, it switches me straight to the folder Tyrian is in and all I have to do is type "setup" to set up the sound or "tyrian" to run the game.

Nevermind. I found a slightly better way that doesnt appear to interfere with gameplay. Opened up the command box, popped the file in. Voila. Instant Tyrian. I'm somewhere in episode 4, i think, with max power laser weapon, heavy homing bombs as a rear, microcorp class A shield, microfusion generator, the war fly satilite, and the proton cannon tangerine, all on the stalker B. Anyone know when the Zica lasers availble? *pause* Erm. I Didnt really catch any of that matt. I'm wondering if you have sound, which i need, instead of just music. I meant setting up command by command, so that I can set tyrian and open it. Its in my plain old C drive, the main browser thing which leads off to the documents and settings and junk. Alright, i can get as far as mounting up my C drive, but then it doesnt allow me to do anything else. It appears to have no comprehensino of folders whatsoever. Edit: i've finaly done it, thanks to the newbies pictorial guide to dosbox. shoot me now, please.
