Right... You could go with the WYSIWYG option. For that I'd recommend you either get Dreamweaver or MS front page... Or... You could go the HTML route, where I started learning it was htmlgoodies.comAs for hosting... Well, Google is your oyster. XD

Well, you want simple, you could always go with a... Eww... Freewebs website. They're incredibly simple to add content to, however just don't expect a particularly customizable website. You just pick from some templates.

A good editor is Nvu. Completely free and frontpage-like. Good hosting for beginners is... anythat that isn't Geocities or, IMHO, Freewebs. I believe Google Pages is decent, but I've never used it.
