its actualy preety old. my copies (of the entire LOTR series for that mattter) have yellow lined pages. and the covers have old paintings on them. the cover of the hobbit has a picture with a hobbit that vaugly resemlbes the man that played sam in the movies. heres another citation Far over the misty mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away ere break of day To seek the pale enchanted gold.
The dwarves of youre made mighty spells, While hammers fell like ringing bells Inplaces deep, where dark things sleep, In hollow halls beneath the fells.
For ancient kind and elvish lord There many a gleaming golden hoard They shaped and wrought, and light they caught To hide gems on hilt of sword.
On silver necklaces they strung The flowering stars, on crowns they hung The dragon-fire, in twisted wire They meshed the light of moon and sun.
Far over the misty mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away, ere break of day, To claim our long-forgotten gold.
Goblets they carved there for themselves And harps of gold: where no man delves There lay they long, and many a song Was sung unheard by men or elves.
The pines were roaring on the height, The winds were moaning in the night. The fire was red, it flaming spread; The trees like torches blazed with light.
The bells were ringing in the dale And men looked up with faces pale; The dragon's ire more fierce than fire Laid low their towers and houses frail The mountain smoke beneath the moon; The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom. They fled their hall to dying fall Beneath his feet, beneath the moon.
Far over the misty mountains grim To dungeons dep and caverns dim We must awway, ere break of day To win our harps and gold from him! -J.R.R Tolkien's the Hobbit, page 13-15 of the 50th aniversery edition ahh...i think the hobbit was the best.

It's the prequel, for those who haven't read it, to Lord of the Rings. Y'know how in the first movie, you hear Gandalf saying to Frodo "If you're referring to the incident with the dragon, I was barely involved!"? This book is the "incident with the dragon".
I went and saw The Hobbit put on as a puppet show once. It was actually pretty cool and not kiddie at all.
Oh, and Star, as the post has drifted a bit, I'll say... That's a cool enough poem for people who like that sort of poem ^_^

Bumping this topic because I remember a poet whose work I do admire...
if you get a chance, find the works of "Banjo" Patterson and read them, because they are great. He wrote that "Waltzing Matilda" song us Aussies are inordinately proud of for some reason. Of his poetry work, try "Clancy of the Overflow", "The Man from Snowy River" and "The Man from Ironbark".
