eco, if you dont appreciate the ART, then...oh, i dont know, DONT POST. well, i like all forms of poetry, hell, all forms of literature, as long as it takes my eye and away from this reality. i enjoy reading it. writing it, for me, is a totaly different story.

Make up your mind, Eco, either you are or you aren't.
Hmm. Poetry. I'm not really into writing poetry (it's usually a bit teen-angsty for my tastes), and I don't actively look for poetry to read, but when I read it I know what I like.
Haikus can be pretty cool. Aside from that, I enjoy poetry that RHYMES, that flows well throughout, that isn't full of "Oh everyone in the world hates me" rubbish (if I wanted to read people's suicide notes, I'd join the ambulance service), and that doesn't have lines
indented like this for no sane reason... (example, some of the poems and chants in LOTR - the book, not the movie - are quite well written. The only poem I have ever actually read aloud is Gollum's fish riddle)

Here's another one of my poems....(it's free-verse for those who are unsure...)
A life's lesson Dictators will never finish, Theifs will always loose, But in a revolution, It's a 50/50 chance.

meh. i agree with matt. tolkien had a way with songs and poetry and such. so does jacques who does the redwall series. a lot of fantasy books have songs, redwall books especialy. anyway, haikus are cool. the hard part is the sylable limit. oh, and eco, do you even KNOW what a haiku is?

*sigh* okay then, quick english lesson. a haiku is a japanese form of poetry. they usualy have to do with nature. now, the thing about haiku's is the sylible limit. it goes 5 on the first line, 7 on the next, and 5 on the last. and they must also be three lines. always. like this
the not so big frog jumbed into the tiny pond. splash. silence.
got it (also, can someone clarify if that last line is valid?)

my favorite example of poetry slash song are the songs of those lovely dwarves from the Hobbit. in the first 2 dozen pages actualy. instead of descriping, i shall cite! (italics cuss thats how it was in the book. ya hear?) Chip the glasses and crack the plates! Blunt the knives and bend the forks! That's what Bilbo Baggins hates- Smash the bottles and burn the corks!
Cut the cloth and tread on the fat! pour the milk on the pantry floor! Leave the bones on the bedroom mat! Splash the wine on every door!
Dump the crocks in in a boiling bowl; Pound them up with a thumping pole; And when you've finished, if any are whole, Send them down the hall to roll!
That's what bilbo Baggins hates! So,carefully! carefully with the plates! J.r.r Tolkien's The Hobbit. ahhh, i love those dwarves.
