Depends if brain stem death has occured. If it was Matt simulating false activity then that would be poking electrical probes in it. As it is there's still a few of us here occasionally so I'd say the brain stem and possibly some of the rest of the damn thing is still alive. Doesn't mean the body is viable i.e. will survive independently if taken off the ventilator and sometimes pacemaker or false heart.
Trivia: 'life support' machines are used to keep recently deceased bodies fresh while the organs are removed for transplant.
