I've honestly never had an actual pet in my life. My parents couldn't afford one, nor can I afford one living where I do now. It's a shame, because I've always wanted a pet cat, though my roommate wants a dog.
I'm pretty much open to any animal. ^^;;
Right now, I cope with the lack of a pet with virtual/fake pets. I pick up a pokemon game, or visit some non-neopets virtual site and play around with it. Ironically, games like that get really boring after the first couple of weeks.
Discuss:
Pets. Do you have them? Any funny pet stories?
Which is better? Dogs or Cats?
Any other not cat or dog pet that's good? (Like rabbits?)
Virtual pets/stuffed animals (plushies) - do they count?
Why do pet games get so BORING after a while, as opposed to a real pet?

Heh, I was in your exact same position up until a few months ago, but my uncle got me a kitty on my 18h birthday. ;u;
I guess pet games get boring because they just don't give you the full range of emotion that a real pet tends to - which, for any given day, usually goes like "Hello, Oliver-- okay please get off my feet. Okay please let me eat now. D'aww you're so cute. Heheh you're funny oh what the crap did you just snort oh god calm down oh BLARGH my parents are going to kill me aww you're the best."

I guess pet games get boring because they just don't give you the full range of emotion that a real pet tends to Nintendogs is actually pretty good with it, from what I noticed. Still, a real animal would be nice. Someone to actually cuddle up to. You can't exactly hold to your DS or your computer screen in the same way you can hold a pet, now can you? Unless someone finds a way to materialize said pets. I dunno about you, and I don't care about your opinion on pokemon, but either a charmander or a pikachu would make an AWESOMELY cute pet. Maybe that's just me. My roommate/sisterly figure/awseome friend wants to convert me from a cat person to a dog person someday. Though she likes cats, too. She argues that dogs are a lot more people-friendly than cats, and are a lot more "laid back" in her words.

Sorry but a Charmander would f*** up my furniture and a Pikachu would have to be kept out of my room at all times because my electrical hardware is too precious...

Some on here may know I'd like a cat. Friend of mine has a dog, and recently found a chicken in his garden. They're good friends.
