i demand to know how this is done huh? Anywho, I survived long enough to get my population to 38, and now I have more food than I know what to do with. Still no meat though, for some reason my fisherdwarf just leaves his catches to rot. (Seriously, there is a HUGE pile of rotten fish next to the river) The only combat I've had so far was with some nasty buzzards, which I somehow managed to kill with axes. One strange mood so far and one random master piece. Oh, and the cows are here! EDIT: OH SNAP DWARF PARTY TIME EDIT EDIT: Got bored and mined straight into an underground river, bad idea. EDIT EDIT EDIT: Made a new badass fortress. Unfortunately, one of my dwarves has entered a strange mood and I can't figure which workshop he's after. I think I have every single workshop a strange mood can affect built. His highest skill is lye making (wtf?) and I did not remember to check his second highest, which I'll do next time I play. At this rate I'm going to have to build a wall around him so he doesn't go crazy and kill everyone... Normally, I'd have a squad strike him down, but he's right in the meeting room. EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: He took over a leatherworks. *phew* EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: Eh... He made a KIPPERLY leather vest. Hard to be mad though because another dwarf made a legendary hat worth 43600. That is one badass hat.

Double post because I need some help. What the hell do I do with goblins in cage traps? I can't figure out the commands to interact with the cages, all I can do is view them. (only the goblins, not their items or anything) q command doesn't bring anything up and assigning squadies to execute them isn't working either. And just in case yall are interested, here are the details of the EPIC BATTLE: A horde of goblins appeared over the mountain side following the caravan that had just made its way into our fortress. I assigned a squad of axedwarves to the entrance. One of them spewed vomit all over the walls out of fear. (and the wild party he had just taken part in probably didn't help) Arrows immediately rained down upon them. I had no other choice, I ordered the squad had to retreat. Fortunately, a few brave war dogs came to the rescue and drew all the gobos into our traps. Blood splashed in all directions, and several kittens set off the remaining traps out of fear. (aww) The last of the enemies fled in terror. This battle would have been a disaster had I not carved out the mountainside beforehand. The only reason this worked was because the goblins were forced to funnel into the entrance from quite a distance away instead of advancing from the sides. EDIT: If someone could tell me how to designate a dump area that'd be a nice disposal method. I have a nice big pit setup, complete with a fenced off section next to the meeting hall so dwarves can watch the gobos plummet. EDIT EDIT: Figured it out. Goblins survived a 5 story plummet in their cages... Damnit, how do I kill these bastards? Oh, and I tried to disarm them from the stocks but all I could find was their quivers. Maybe I can make a draw bridge, fill the bottom with spikes, and smash them under it... Only in dwarf fortress. INSANE AMOUNT OF EDITS: Okay, figured out how to disarm the goblins, just had to push my bookkeepers accuracy. Now I have to figure out how to get them out of their cages so I can have the dwarves beat them to death. THAT, or toss em under my sweet drawbridge. Seriously guys, I'm running out of room. And don't ask about the elves... They brought it on themselves. And um, I was letting them out a couple at a time with levers for my soldiers to slaughter, but it was taking way too damn long. Fortunately, my marksdwarves can clear out most ambushers before they reach the traps nowadays and sieges are at a minimum. (I shouldn't be getting sieged at all yet... I think attacks may be based on fortress wealth instead of time passed)

A TRIPLE POST? Anyone wanna play a succession game? No experience required, worst case scenario we can start with my super fortress, (you could easily survive a decade by locking all the dwarfs inside and staring at the screen) OR we could make one doomed for failure in the first few years, because losing is fun!Current fortress offers the following: Randomly generated fire breathing titans Pissed off blood-thirsty monkeys Magma river... Buried somewhere Elite dwarf sniper team Government funded bear breeding program Aboveground mega-barracks under construction Nearby elves, just begging to be murdered A metropolis of humans ruled by an ultra powerful DEMON which occasionally stops by for a chat and destroys everything it touches A very very very deep cavern, which I haven't had the chance to explore A legendary, slightly suicidal, chef dwarf Plenty of useless peasants to sacrifice to Armok Barrels, thousands of them! WE MUST HAVE MORE BARRELS And if you're totally lost (which the few people who actually tried the game after D's run probably are) I can give you a crash course through PM. I found out later that the tutorials available are garbage. The game is much easier than they make it sound. And um... I'm not adamant on using my fortress, I realize making a new one would probably be more fun. Its just that the big ones are boring to play on your own. EDIT:Blah... Had to kill the demon, it wouldn't stop tearing up my fortress. Totally destroyed my automatic monkey butchery. For any of you that are interested here is the obscenely long combat details I pulled from the gamelog. I was going to post it in a spoiler, but it would have take 3 posts to fit it all in. Don't expect anyone to read this, but I'd recommend quickly skimming a few sections. Usually an enemy dies in about 5 hits... Finding a fight this long is very rare, and shows how insane DF's detail can get. Dunno if this is in the log, but the only casualty was a wrestler whose arm got ripped clean off. Ouch. K, I'm done posting in this thread until someone replies. Seriously. I'm done. Absolutely done.
