Except everyone knows that hosting servers locally hardly ever works and is wholly unreliable. They also close whenever the host exits the game. There is, in fact, a dedicated server that's downloadable for free on Steam. I sincerely hope that you are not actually paying for a server that has an average of 0.3 people at any given time. Although Steam does let you download a dedicated server for free, you need crazy fast internet for players to get a decent ping while playing on it. And even then it uses up most of your bandwidth. I mean, think: If the free-to-download servers worked well, then the market for rentable servers wouldn't exist anyway. |

So you are, in fact, paying for this tiny server that almost no one actually plays on.
Sounds like a good use of money.

Just because it's the only group I'm in doesn't mean I'm obligated to play on an empty server when I could play single-player with zero lag.

ESPECIALLY when you can do more interesting things in single player. You're not restricted to the server's addons.

We've recently changed the admin mod system to ASSmod, as suggested by Therio. Citrus looked pretty, but wasn't officially supported. It also seems that it was Citrus that caused the white screen lag. All in all, switching to ASSmod has greatly improved the server. We've also set the map as plain ol' gm_construct, and it seems to work in terms of attracting players. The server was actually full for a few hours yesterday.  There's just a little more configuration that needs to be done before we re-open, but be sure to at least give it a try when it does. |

So I got back on the server a few moments ago. Left it a few minutes later.

AFK nearly the whole time. Played for like 10 minutes.
