I usually had my starter at a high level, then have like two other pokemon about ten levels below, then the rest twenty to twenty five levels below that. If my started died, there was a good chance I was royally screwed, especially in the Elite Four. Also, I almost had no strategy for my lineup at all. Now that I think about it, that sums up my approach to games in general.

I used to do the same. I remember when I first beat the Elite Four on Blue, I did it with a lv50 Venusaur, various lv30 pokemon (I think one of them was a Jolteon), and a lv20 Lapras.
