Yah, I know, some of you want to say a topic is already up, and that it's far into the past. But since it will be the anniversary tomorrow, we should at least give some respect. No politics here, just prayers.
On 9/11, the Twin Towers, a symbol of American Freedom, fell because of the atrocious work of a network of terrorists and their evil scheme. Thousands died, some of them most honorably, such as those in the Pennsylvania field. There was no politics, no covering up. We simply were looking the wrong way when it happened.
Today, there are American soldiers dying in the desert, their memories only existing in the hearts of those who knew them. Some of the people they died to protect, don't appreciate it one bit. All over the world they exist. But some do. And that's why we keep moving on.
Some say that America shouldn't be trying to play superhero. But then again, who will? And that's they're there.
So put your politics aside. Your protests, your complaints, leave them at the door. Just offer a little prayer for those that died, and those that are left to carry on.

I'm patriotic myself, and I'm going to have a long moment of silence tomorrow. What I really hate is that the idiots at my school think that 9/11 doesn't matter anymore because it was 3 years ago. Would you care about your parent's death if it was 3 years ago? Yes! And thousands of other children lost parents. Why they don't have enough good in their heart to care is beyond me. Thanks for commemorating the event, W. You're a real patriot.

It is now officially 9/11 where I am. However, I doubt I'll be up early enough for a moment of silence. I'll pray later in the day, though.

I left my prayers at the door when i heard the news on the day it happened. thats enough. where your hopes SHOULD go are to the soldiers and honorable discharged being forced back into service in a country that had NOTHING to do with 9/11. Sure, we may be the world police, we always have been and nothing to bads come of it. But this war has no purpose. Our soldiers are dying over an EXCUSE to be there. Now i dont think the souls of the dead are unhappy cus of us not caring, but of their deaths being used as an excuse to go to a pointless war. THATS whats really important.

there are people at my school making jokes about 9/11 saying stuff like "on my birthday, i'm going to replay 9/11, i mean, who cares what happens to Americans?" Its sick, so many people died and they are laughing at it

No prayers from me, I'm an atheist.
I also sailed throughout today without commemorating it once, a record I don't plan to break for this thread.

>_> D, stop turning this into a political thing. I'm serious. *smacks whacks beats*
Matt, I guess I don't really have authority over you, but 9/11 does count as one of those days that "live in infamy", so don't have such a smug attitude about it.
This is just a reminder to say a prayer, or pay some sort of respect, to the people that died on that day and those that left them, and the soldiers in Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere, doing their duty even when so many don't appreciate it.

But you don't commemorate the other "days that live in infamy", huh? I'll bet a year from the Beslen school attacks you've forgotten the date. I'll bet you don't even know the date of the Bali bombing, or the Madrid train bombing. I will physically bet real, actual money you don't post a topic on Rememberance Day, November 11. (Well, you will _now_ of course ) I sat with the rest of the world in mute shock and pity on the day. A year later, I smiled as the car headlights lit up across Melbourne and the world. Of course I hate the fact that those people died. I'd be a right arsehole if I didn't. But I hate the fact that any innocent dies, in any attack, on any day. I refuse to make this a new world relocation of Rememberance Day merely because it's a big attack that happened to Americans.

>_> I don't really want this to become an argument.
Fine, Matt. You don't live in the US, so don't give it as much thought. But a lot of the SV contributors are still American, so let them pay their respect. Heck, any of the Brits that care (after all, the Brits are our allies in this gig, at least somewot), they can pay respects too!

Not arguing: discussing. No malice involved, anywhere. BEsides, I'm glad to get a serious discussion going here that isn't about bloody Kcan. Besides, Australia're allied with you too, W, (goes to show how much press we get over there ;D) although just as many of us don't want to be allied to the coalition as there are Americans who don't want there to be a coalition for us to ally with, so to speak I never said I was gonna lock the topic or any such, but seriously - there's proper places to commemorate tragedies. A Sonic MB probably ain't it. (MoogleMB, which _is_ American, and has ardent followers of both sides of politics, has no commem topic, for example.) And it is possible to be a patriot while disagreeing with your government. It is possible to appreciate the job armed forces do without supporting the cause they are doing it for. Just because I don't think we should be in Iraq, that doesn't mean I hope the allied troops over there walk into an Iraqi minefield, or that I don't think they are brave, honourable and commendable people (with the exception of Lynndie England et al.) It just means I wish those brave, honourable people weren't being used in the way they are. And it is possible to respect the dead without posting a topic to SV.
