Well I don't really mind what the theme is.

Perhaps instead of a full game, we should instead concentrate on single level/chapter demos instead (not necessarily starting at the beginning unless a tutorial is required). That way we can judge a game based on it's concept and level of polish, rather than just how long it is.
That, and getting some good constructive criticism and a little competition may urge some of the contestants to continue developing the game afterwards.

That, and getting some good constructive criticism and a little competition may urge some of the contestants to continue developing the game afterwards. Well I'm a bit on the sleep deprived side at the moment, but essentially I'm trying to keep it as open as possible. I mean it's quite possible to develop a game that is 'infinitely' long (if somewhat predictable) in such a time period, using a bit of clever programming, and if somebody wanted to do that I wouldn't want to stop them. I don't think anybody's expecting anybody else to develop a full-length epic RPG or anything, given the time constraints. However you do raise a good point, it's important to make sure that whatever you're doing is achievable. It's difficult to say that they should be constrained to a certain length because not all games are structured in the same kind of way, and to one person keeping the game short might allow them to polish what they have, to another they might want to use that time to explore what possibilities their game could have (e.g. level gimmicks and whatnot). I mean you could produce the next Desert Bus if you wanted. I guess at the end of the day it's about playing to your strengths and striking a suitable balance given the time restrictions.

More reckless double posting/bumping behaviour (somebody should arrest me, honestly). Just reminding anybody else who is still interested in this (up to 5 of you, apparently ) that the contest is now open with the Video Game Name Generator theme. So yeah, make threads, come up with zany game ideas based on randomly generated names, implement them and all that kind of jazz. Also the first post has been updated slightly again.
